Below are the component part of my map design.
I used the magic wand tool to select the white areas around the map illustration and then separated the selected area out as a layer. I then reduced its opacity so that the collage texture could be seen beyond it.
I really like the way it chaotically combines, with the type at many different scales. Although this does compromise the legibility slightly I think this is a compromise I can make because as I said it adds to the overall chaos of the map.
